Oceanside Has New Charitable Group

The creation of The Oceanside Charitable Foundation, an all-encompassing charity, was announced yesterday. The new philanthropy hopes to raise a $5 million endowment by 2012 that would fund a variety of good works. Its motto is “Connecting people who care with causes that matter.”
The nonprofit foundation hopes by 2012 to provide at least $250,000 a year "for the benefit of all who live, work and play in Oceanside," according to fact sheet distributed by organizers.
The foundation is backed by 10 founding members, including former Oceanside City Councilwoman Colleen O'Hara and activist Tom Nunan, and commitments of $50,000. Their short-term goal is to recruit 100 members who will donate $1,000 a year for five years by June 30.
The Oceanside organization is affiliated with The San Diego Foundation, established in 1975.
