Oceanside Launches Charitable Endowment Foundation

12/2/2007 – North County Times Oceanside

Community leaders in Oceanside opened a new chapter in local history recently by launching the Oceanside Charitable Foundation, in affiliation with the region-wide San Diego Foundation. Co-chairs of the Oceanside Charitable Foundation board, Colleen O’Harra and Tom Nunan, greeted members and guests at a reception at the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce. The founding is the latest development in a movement taking hold across North County called “ Endow Your Community.” Charitable foundations affiliated with The San Diego Foundation have launched in Carlsbad, Escondido, Rancho Bernardo, as well as the 4S Ranch and Del Sur areas.

The OCF is embarking on an Endow Oceanside initiative, which will raise awareness of the benefit of endowments, both to the donor and to the community they serve. Besides giving the donor an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy, endowments become a durable well of support for nonprofit organizations and causes through good times and bad. OCF members’ donations fun grantmaking for the coming year as well a building an enduring endowment to support charitable efforts for future generations. Members have voice in choosing the grants focus and vote in which organizations receive funding. Potentially, the Oceanside Community Foundation could support causes like social services, the arts, education, health care or the environment.
